Use of Starfighter Rankings
The theory behind starfighter rankings is simple. Attacking at
the same rank kills one fighter, down one rank destroys two fighters,
down two ranks destroys six fighters, and down three ranks destroys
twelve fighters. Attacking up any number of ranks gains you one
fighter kill. Attacking with multiple squadrons is also simple.
Just take the normal number of fighter kills and multiply times
however many squadrons you are using.
Now, we run into the dilemma of squadron sizes. We solve this
with another simple solution. Whenever a squadron drops by four
fighters, it drops a ranking. Thus, if a Rank One squadron were
to lose four fighters, it would be classified as a Rank Two squadron;
another four losses would drop it to a Rank Three squadron. Please
note, this means that a squadron can only drop two rankings, ever.
Capital Starships and Starfighters
Combat between capital starships and starfighters is an easily
grasped subject. Starfighters assaulting capital starships uses
the values assigned on the Weapons
/ Hit Points Chart. Thus, is very simple.
Capital starships assaulting starfighters is very different, but
not any more difficult. Each fighter is assigned a manueverability
rating. This rating is used to dodge incoming laser fire from
capital starships. You take the number of laser-type weapons fired,
divide it by twice the fighter's manueverability, and that is
how many fighters are lost. When using warheads, the starfighters
manueverability is the rate at which it will dodge warheads.
